Advanced Composition 2009 Summer Reading

Advanced Composition:

 

You need to purchase The Modern Library version of The Count of Monte Cristo.

 

The paperback ISBN: 037576030X (you can get it here: Amazon ) and the hardcover ISBN: 0679601996 (you can get it here: Amazon).

 

You need to be very careful and order the correct book. There are many different versions and if you get the wrong one you run the risk of falling behind and not being able to catch-up.

 

Your only assignment is to read! Read ch. 1-55. I want you to enjoy the book (however be aware that the first two days of school you will have a test and write an in class essay based on the reading).

 

A note about Sparknotes, etc… I encourage you to use these sites IN CONJUCTION with the text, not instead of the text. I promise you, because of the complexity of this book, if you try to skip the reading and rely soley on a “cheat” site, you will be very confused and lost.

 

BTW... I have had a few students in the past few years who thought they could "skate" by and not read. In EVERY instance the person either failed or recieved a D for the first semester grade. I am assuming you are in this class because you want to attend a 4-year university. Well, neither a D or a fail will be accepted at any 4-year school. Please think about this as you are reading/not reading this summer.
