Cool Websites

Page history last edited by Paige Lahaise 14 years, 9 months ago

SOME INTERESTING/HELPFUL WEBSITES YOU MIGHT WANT TO EXPLORE (note that these are different than your Weekly Reader sites):

Animoto: VERY cool site. They use photos that you send them and make them into a video with sound and everything. ***If you are a current student of mine the people at Animoto are generous enough to give all access passes to educators and their students. Let me know if you want to use this site and I will send you the required code so that you have access to everything they have to offer.

Big Labs: Do really cool things with your photos.

Book Glutton: "We set out to create a better way to read on-line; our goal was to make something different, engaging, intelligent and digital. The concept was born, as many good ideas are, on a crumpled cocktail napkin late one evening in 2006, and we’ve been working to build it ever since. Our intent: build an experience that is simultaneously a book group, a computer, and a book."

Common Errors in English: EVERYONE should have this as their homepage!

Free Books: Harper Collins Site. Read current bestsellers on their site, for free!

Glogster: Make your own digital poster.

Grade Sheet: Check your grade online, anytime. Your password is the first four letters of your last name and your student ID number.

Grammar Girl: Daily grammar tips. Who can't benefit from those?!

Lahaise's Ning

Lahaise's Toolbar: Get a toolbar for your browser specially designed by me, for you!

Letterpop: Create newsletters. Really cool idea for reports!

Lexipedia: Definitions in a visual form.

Literature Map: "provides a web of authors you might like based on authors that you already enjoy reading. Just type an author's name into the search box and webbed list of authors will be displayed. The authors' names closest to the author whose name you entered are the authors whose work you're most likely to enjoy."

Open Office: Don't have Microsoft Office? Go here to get a free office suite that is totally compatible with Microsoft.

Prezi: WAAAAY more cool than PowerPoint.

Psykopaint: Turn your photos into "paintings".

Slideshare

TED Talks: Technology, Entertainment & Design. Talks by really smart people!

Turnitin.com: Keeping you honest.

Wordnik: A VERY neat way to look-up words. It gives sentences, definitions, pronunciations, and so much more.

Write Rhymes: "a fun little site where you can find a word to rhyme with just about any other word."
